Vegan Plate in Studio City   Leave a comment

Vegan Plate is a Thai vegan restaurant on Ventura Blvd in Culver City.
I went in hoping they had at least one good soy free item on their menu and to my surprise they had a whole menu full.  Well, they have the option of soy or seitan(wheat meat).  I was so excited!
I (LadyA) tried the Green Curry with steamed brown rice which had coconut milk, bell pepper, eggplant, spices and bamboo shoots.  Now usually with meals like this I soak my rice with the soupy curry and maybe eat some of the vegetable in it.  But I never eat the bamboo shoots because they’re usually too hard and I definitely don’t eat the bell peppers.  I like to cook with them cut in small pieces.

At Vegan Plate, I ate everything on my plate.  The bamboo shoots were cooked perfectly.  They were like little firm noodles in my dish.   The bell peppers were actually a perfect contrast with the flavor of the coconut milk.   I also had a bite of my husband’s cowboy burger made with seitan.  It was very good and surprisingly he really liked it too!

I met the owner Cookie, a friendly lady.   She suggested I try the carrot cake.  I did and it was so good!  Before I became vegan I loved carrot cake.  I was worried that would be a thing of the past.  Looks like its back baby!

We also took home some Freshy rolls.  They are like spring rolls wrapped in rice paper filled with Thai spaghetti, bean sprouts, romaine lettuce and soy chicken, served with hoisin sauce.  The soy chicken were in big enough pieces that I could pick them out.  My husband and I both liked them.

I have to say I’m looking forward to going back and trying something else.  I would definitely recommend this place.
